Monthly Meetings

Tentative schedule of upcoming General Membership Meeting speakers. These are subject to change. The PWWTU Chapter meets on the second Monday of each month - September through June - at 7 PM. Meetings are open to the public.  Each meeting usually consists of a fly tying demonstration by a guest tier, a short business meeting followed by a speaker who is expert on some aspect of trout fishing or on concerns relating to coldwater stream conservation. Plan to join us. We look forward to meeting you at our next chapter meeting.

Next Meeting: February 8th-Cancelled due to inclement weather. See you at Cabin Fever!

March 8th:   “A Night At The Vise”
We have so many great fly tiers right here in our Penn’s Woods West TU chapter and at our March meeting we’ll see several of them demonstrate their craft! Jim Hoey, owner of Jim Hoey’s Fly Fishing Shop, will be tying some serious trout killers, including a shucked caddis pattern (a.k.a., “The Latchkill Lament”) and the “Easy Clouser Emerald Shiner”. Bobby Hiel and Vince Schweitzer, of First Casts guide services, will be tying some old favorites like the “Royal Wulff”, “Light Cahill” and a “Soft Hackle Stone”. Bobby is going to show us how to tie something called “The Bass Assassin”! With all three tiers working simultaneously at separate tables, and the help of some video camera equipment, you’ll be able to get up close and personal with these fly tying experts. Recipes will be provided for all of the patterns tied.  Plus, at the end of the evening we’ll have a raffle with the winner getting a new fly box with all of the patterns tied by our experts!  This is going to be a fun night for expert and novice fly tiers alike!

April 12th:  Eric Stroup
We are excited to announce that author and guide Eric Stroup will join us at our April meeting to discuss his new book, “Common Sense Fly Fishing: 7 Simple Lessons to Catch More Trout”. This is a practical fly fishing guidebook, from a guide that knows how to teach.  Eric will cover some of the often-overlooked fundamentals including, drift, reading water, position of angler and rod, casting, line control and mending.  Eric Stroup’s articles have appeared in Fly Fisherman Magazine, Eastern Fly Fishing, and he is a regular contributor to the Mid Atlantic Fly Fishing Guide. Eric’s presentation promises to be both instructive and interactive, just like a day on the water with a good guide!  Eric, of Spruce Creek, PA, has earned a reputation as one of the premier guides in the east. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn and enjoy his unique presentation!
